1   Cornfield Maze of Bratt, Florida   2

The Corn Maize opens May 29, 2009. Will Close Aug. 15, 2009

Colvin and Lavelle Davis, with the help of their children, have transformed a five-acre cornfield on their farm into an intricate ``maize''.  The maze began as a simple hobby that blossomed into the draw it is today.  The Davis' have lived in this farm community all their lives and after retirement, Colvin decided to attempt the cornfield maze.  It has brought the family many blessings. They love to meet and watch children, teens, and adults enjoy themselves with clean, wholesome fun.
The a-maize-ing idea came from an article I had read in the early 1990’s in Progressive Farmer magazine.  My son laughed himself nearly to death when I told him what I had decided to do, Colvin stated.
Colvin begins the maze with a sketch on graph paper. The corn is planted, and the maze is cut with a small tractor and by hand with a hoe. The letters A, B, C and D mark the correct path’s progression through the maze, but many never find their way past A.
According to Colvin, so far this season, no one has successfully found their way through the maze. We have operated the maze for each of the past seven years.  I had one lady that came three nights in a row that was really determined to get all the way through without cheating, but I had to go in and get her.  Some people get really determined to make it through, sometimes I have to go in and get them.  I can navigate the maze in about 30 minutes.

Admission to the ``A-Maize-ing'' cornfield is $5 per person over 5.  Five and under gets in free with an adult.  Included in this price is the challenge of the maze and a nightly hayride with some surprises along the way.
The Maize is opened on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  It is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights for groups by appointment.  Some things you might want to bring are: a camera, comfortable shoes, and a flashlight.
Refreshments are available: corndogs, popcorn, corn chips, and cold drinks.

If you look at the aerial picture (Click on the Pictures on the right) thinking you could use one to find your way through the maze…good luck.  I’ve had people use the pictures and even GPS units to try to find their way through.  But so far, that’s not helped anyone conquer Bratt’s A-maize-ing Cornfield.
The Davis Farm is about 4.5 miles south of Atmore, Alabama. At the intersection of Hwy. 97 and Hwy. 4, head East on Hwy. 4 for about 1.8 miles. Look for the sign. Call for reservations or information: 850-327-6372.

Ya'll come!
